WhatsApp Not Working Properly for Millions of Pakistanis
WhatsApp has been having some tough times! Since 10 Muharram (ura), millions of folks in Pakistan faced problems with WhatsApp on cellular.
This situation is mainly bothering people using mobile data. It’s mostly Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, & Zong users who are speaking out about it. Many have shared their troubles on social media. IT.PK talked about these issues today. Users found that WhatsApp calls & messages work just fine. However, things get tricky when it comes to loading media—like videos & pictures. Those files just aren’t coming through like they should. Good news for those using wired broadband (WiFi)—WhatsApp is doing great there!
During peak hours after Youm e Ashur, the media loading problems were at their worst. So far, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) hasn’t explained why this mess is still happening after such a long time.
Big mobile operators are checking into this issue right now.
Earlier, the troubles spilled over to other apps too! Instagram & Facebook had their share of crashes, as lots of users reported problems on X & LinkedIn throughout the day! Now, though, it looks like these problems are mostly focused on WhatsApp for those on mobile networks.
Just a bit ago, local authorities decided to restrict Facebook—without even telling anyone! This caused users to struggle when trying to access social media across many internet service providers (ISPs). Downdetector even showed that this restriction was messing with Instagram & WhatsApp too!
Originally, this restriction was meant to last only until July 17. But now it seems like the government might be unsure about how to fix it or if they should fix it at all!
