Fiverr Disables Accounts for Pakistani Freelancers?

Fiverr, which is really popular for all over the world, has reportedly disabled a lot of accounts belonging to Pakistani freelancers as of Tuesday.

Users on social media in Pakistan have been sharing screenshots. These show notifications from Fiverr letting freelancers know their gigs are now disabled. One screenshot that got a lot of attention on X (formerly Twitter) & Facebook explains that this action was taken due to internet service disruptions in the country.

Fiverr’s message to those freelancers says, “We know that your internet services have been disrupted, making it tough for you to keep working. But don’t worry! Your ratings may be just fine, so we’ve temporarily put your gig status on hold!”

Fiverr made it clear that this is only a temporary issue & it won’t impact the freelancers’ ratings. Many users are sharing this Fiverr message and chiming in with their thoughts.

One user named Noori wrote, “We must stop hurting the income of freelancers in Pakistan!”

Media reports suggest that Fiverr disabled these gigs automatically to protect freelancers from losing their response rates and ratings when internet outages happen.

Noori went on to mention, “A freelance agency owner told a newspaper Fiverr informed clients that freelancers in Pakistan were losing jobs because of these internet issues and they weren’t meeting deadlines.”

Another user, Ehtesham, pointed out, “There are over 2.3 million freelancers in Pakistan. Their income relies on the internet but with frequent outages & slow speeds, clients are turning to freelancers in other countries. Fiverr has also started warning us that our orders could be delayed.”

Ehtesham further said, “If the government can’t create jobs for young people, at least they shouldn’t take away their hard-earned customers!”

Ahsan Wahid shared his feelings too: “Fiverr has disabled the profiles of Pakistani freelancers.” He added that Pakistan’s freelancing community makes over $500 million a year and is one of the biggest freelancing communities globally.

While many people are upset about what Fiverr did, some users disagreed with what’s happening. One said that “accounts with blue ticks are spreading old news,” mentioning he logged into Fiverr through a VPN without any problems.

Another person weighed in too, saying that the accounts of Pakistani freelancers remain online.

A few freelancers spoke to Urdu News and mentioned that they received messages lately saying their gigs weren’t available anymore.

Freelancers use Fiverr to offer a variety of services to clients worldwide by creating gigs. These gigs must be done within certain time frames & agreed prices—this affects how they’re ranked on Fiverr. Gigs basically cover all the services freelancers provide!

With internet outages, many can’t finish their work on time. This puts them & their clients in a tough spot! Clients might leave bad reviews too, which can hurt a freelancer’s reputation and future job opportunities.

To help solve these issues, Fiverr has temporarily had to disable gigs—this way neither party loses out too much.

Looking at it from another perspective: clients could easily find freelancers elsewhere even if it doesn’t really hurt them. It’s really the affected freelancers who feel the loss.

One more thing! A screenshot shared by someone else on social media had the complete details of Fiverr’s message. It ended by saying if freelancers think their internet services are okay again, they should follow instructions to reactivate their status.
