Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Scalable, AI-powered, and Secure
Date of Release for Windows Server 2025
Microsoft Windows Server 2025 is in public preview as of May 29, 2024, and will go on sale in Q4 of 2024. The most inventive and safest version to yet is this one. It provides improved performance for AI and application workloads, new Azure hybrid capabilities, and sophisticated security measures. Both a perpetual license and a subscription, with the latter providing more rights, will be offered. Standard and Datacenter will continue to be the primary editions. The Essentials edition’s release date has not yet been disclosed.
Windows Server: What is it?
Microsoft developed Windows Server as an operating system specifically for servers. It is designed to run enterprise apps, host databases, and administer networked systems. Windows Server, as opposed to Windows OS for personal computers, is designed for applications that demand a high degree of security, scalability, and dependability. It is extensively utilized in corporate settings to support the networks, web services, and associated applications’ architecture.
Feature highlights for Windows Server 2025
A server environment that is more secure, adaptable, and efficient than ever before is offered by Microsoft Windows Server 2025. The following areas have seen the most improvements:
Safety
For strong identity management, Active Directory now has further security features.
The latest version of Server Message Block (SMB) incorporates protections against frequent network attacks as well as SMB over Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC).
Azure Arc’s hotpatching and enhancements to Active Directory and SMB make security updates less requiring system restarts.
Capabilities of Hybrids
Windows Server facilitates multicloud and hybrid settings with:
Features of software-defined networking (SDN) offer improved management and connectivity across several locations.
Azure Arc utilities for on-premises datacenters to integrate Azure services.
Performance and AI
AI is supported by new features that improve system performance:
GPU partitioning for virtual machines, supporting clustering and live migration to enable AI workloads.
For better network management, use features like the Health and Usage Dashboard (HUD) and Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC).
Performance and scalability advantages are observed in storage and hyper-V.
Using hotpatching
The administrator can now install security updates without rebooting thanks to hotpatching. Previously, this was limited to the Azure Edition of Windows Server 2022 Datacenter. Updates to system files usually require a server restart to complete the patching process, however hotpatching has eliminated this need.
Hotpatching will be offered as a monthly subscription add-on. Software Assurance and Azure Arc will be required to use this feature. Hotpatching is supported on Azure and Azure Stack HCI and is free if you are using Azure Edition.
